Lamborghini shows new LMDh

Lamborghini has shown their new LMDh car to the public for the first time.

The physical presentation happened at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in Great Britain, on the 60-year anniversary of the very first car from the Italian brand.

The car will be called SC63, consisting of Squadra Corse and (19)63 is the first year that their first car left the factory near Bologna.

The team has already confirmed that they are going to participate in the full FIA World Endurance Championship in 2024, plus the four Michelin Endurance Cup rounds in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The car is developed in collaboration with the French manufacturer Ligier, but will have a brand new 3,8 litre V8 engine, which Lambo has developed specifically for this programme. They are usually a fan of V10 and V12 engines in their racing cars, but due to weight and space, they are “only” going for a V8, as several other LMDh manufacturers do.

The car will be tested and developed during the coming months by Prema and Iron Lynx, who will run the racing programmes too. The pair are already working together in the FIA WEC, with two LMP2 cars running under the Prema Racing banner, and the two GTE Am cars running under Iron Lynx/Iron Dames branding.

Mirko Bortolotti, Andrea Caldarelli, Daniil Kvyat, and Romain Grosjean have been selected to be a part of the development programme. The four drivers are also confirmed for some racing activities in 2024. The final lineups, plus the rest of the drivers will be announced at a later stage.

Prema Racing has been running this season, in addition to Bortolotti, Caldarelli, and Kyvat, with Doriane Pin, Filip Ugran, Bent Viscaal, Juan Manuel Correa, and Mathias Beche as part of the LMP2 programme. Some of them are due to their current FIA ranking, since a Silver-ranked driver is needed in LMP2 – but it’s not disallowed to run a Silver driver in Hypercar/GTP, so some of them might move into their programme.
